Tips About Online Auctions
Auctions are just that - auctions! That they are online does not stop your bid from being a binding agreement, and don't forget that you will have the same possibility of trouble with people through an online auction that you might with buying and selling at a swap meet locally. And worse, the people you buy from or sell to could be long distance, making problem-solving difficult.
Some good tips:
- Deal with people who have a lot of experience - and you can find out about people as part of a reputable auction site!
- Buy from people who accept PayPal or some other payment service that is a third party. Companies like PayPal will gaurd you from fraud and protect your credit card information.
- Don't send payment or credit card information to someone with a short history in the auction system or someone who won't reveal a real street address and phone number.
- Print out what you bid on and your confirmations as reminders - you may have to complete a transaction in a certain period of time and it will be handy to have a copy to refer to.
- Deal with dealers or vendors who stake their business on the auction system first - these folks are most likely to be reputable.
- Read user comments about the people you want to buy from before placing a bid.
